Can you draw the internet?

SAINT @ RKCR/Y&R are working with Internet Week Europe and Creative review on an experiment called 'Can you draw the internet?'.

They are challanging the creative industry to see if you are more creative / imaginative than a group of 10 year old kids.

THE BRIEF: Show us your interpretation of the internet:
The brief is as open as you want it to be. There is no limitation on what you can do, please interpret the 'internet' in your own way - pictures, drawings, photos, models, words etc etc. We'll just need the image uploaded, ready to compare the "professional adult" version, against the kids versions.

Deadline: 12th November

Voting commences: 15th November

The end product will be something along the lines of an insert within Creative Review with all the work collated into a little booklet.

Songlines Cover

Danny Allison’s stunning illustration is currently gracing the cover of Songlines's latest issue.

The brief for the popular music magazine was for the cover to have a retro but contemporary feel, whilst incorporating an African theme that subtly celebrated FELA's life and accomplishments. Danny handled the brief perfectly, "I screen printed the main title "FELA" and "Songlines" masthead to give it an overall handmade feel. It’s been one of my favourite projects so far."

John Lennon's 70th Birthday

More lettering mastery from Ruth Rowland who was thrilled to create the lettering for John Lennon’s "Gimme Some Truth Campaign" to commemorate his 70th birthday.

Overseen by Yoko Ono and EMI Music and using many samples of Lennon’s own writing, Ruth developed hand drawn lettering for use across the album to capture some of his light humour. The logo for the campaign was inspired by the small calligraphic self portraits that often accompanied his signature.

London Fashion Week Sugar Cave and Liberty Prints

Emma Rios has been ever so busy! Two major commissions have recently been completed, the first of which is the "Sugar Cave" created for London Fashion Week. Emma produced a Jules Verne adventure using sugar as an architectural scale alongside art directors Bompas and Parr. Silver Spoon sugar was used to build a crystal cave that imagined the visitor had been shrunk to the size of a standard grain of table sugar!

Emma has also designed a range of prints for Liberty inspired by London. She says: "...I love Liberty and London so this was even more of an honour and a great treat to work on, even more so when I found out my designs were going on everything from tea pots to silk scarves …I even heard someone say socks! These prints include a map of London, a gentleman pigeon and a theatrical paper-cut of a haunting Thames..." This image shows the map which will be in Liberty from November.

Commissioned by Eleanor Crow at Faber and Faber, Peter greatly enjoyed the project and explains, "..I felt that the job which involved creating caricatures of some of the larger than life presenters and guests of this show, would be fraught with difficulty, but in truth the job was a delight to work on." The QI Annual will be available to buy from November 4th.

A Powerful Porfolio of Artist Creations for Penfield Children’s Center

For the past five years, ad agency Cramer-Krasselt has partnered with Milwaukee’s Penfield Children’s Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping infants and children reach their full potential, to promote its primary annual fund-raising initiative, the Croquet Ball.

Each year, C-K commissions artists from around the world to bring their unique vision to the event’s promotional posters. The caliber of talent is widespread: from international artists such as Catalina Estrada, James Jean and Red Nose Studio and others who have worked on brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Target, Microsoft, Nike and American Airlines and publications such as O, The Oprah MagazineThe Wall Street JournalNewsweek and Time, to local students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). Each artist brings a distinct perspective and enviable talent to the continuing theme of “Make an Impact. Have an Impact.” It’s a fascinating study into these artists’ styles and chosen media.

These donated illustrations are auctioned off at the event to raise money for Penfield and have gained industry recognition from Communications Arts and The One Show. (Travis Lampe’s “Robot” won a 2006 One Show Award and most recently, Chris Buzelli’s “Tiger” was featured in the prestigious Communication Arts 2010 Illustration Annual.)

Below is a list of all the participating artists and attached a PDF with several posters from the collection, including Lampe’s “Robot” on page 3 and Buzelli’s “Tiger” on page 11. For more information on Penfield Children’s Center, please visit http://www.penfieldchildren.org/
