Reptile Brain Music

 

BoomArtwork produces an album cover for Swedish rock band Imperial State Electric.
Nicke Andersson; former front man of The Hellacopters approached BoomArtwork to create the art for the vinyl album of his new band. He asked for something bold and vintage to illustrate the record title 'Reptile Brain Music', so BoomArtwork set to work using his fabulous design and illustrative skills and made this punchy retro visual, he says "... First I drew the hand of Zeus with my brush and ink, and then the crocodiles eating each other's tail. In Photoshop I placed everything together and then started with the typography. Instead of using an existing typeface I thought it would make the album more special to create custom lettering. After finishing I added some filters to make it look like it was released in the 70's. It was so much fun to illustrate an LP album cover, as it is such a cool, tactile canvas to work on."

Boom Artwork aka Eric Van Den Boom recently participated in a music and arts festival entitled Solar Weekend 2013. Working alongside Maarten Berkers, Eric created an installation consisting of an interactive mural. Eric says "This year's theme was 'experiment'......(the installation) allowed festival visitors to create their own fantastical creatures by rotating three circular boards with different body parts illustrated on them. Visitors could place their heads through the holes in the mural, making a perfect photo opportunity". Eric used his skills to complete the lettering on either side, whilst Maarten created the central illustration for this theatrical piece.

Patronaat Bar

This rather gorgeous bar has been designed by the multi talented Eric Van Den Boom of BoomArtwork. The Dutch venue Patronaat in Haarlem asked Eric to design this drinker's heaven from scratch, so with rough dimensions, a brief that it should have a fairground/church theme and two weeks to come up with the goods, Eric began with sketches of the shape, details, lettering and decoration. He says "When I had the sketch ready I art-directed the 3D artist Jasper Hesseling to create a 3D digital model of it, giving the client a good image of how the venue should look. The builders constructed the bar from these 3D images, and they did an amazing job". We'd love to have a drink there (or two)!

Subway

BoomArtwork has completed quite a set of 'chalk board' style images for Subway. Commissioned by advertising agency Upshot in Chicago, the images have been used as promotional signs in the windows of Subway restaurants in the US. With new promotions each month, the result is an abundance of appetising offers!

Patronaat Posters

BoomArtwork has done a great job with these 2 posters for the Dutch venue Patronaat. The illustrations are to promote two 'post-punk-psychedelic-space-rock mini festivals'. BoomArtwork says " I choose to go for a psychedelic school-board chalk treatment to make these posters really stand out when put up on walls around the city. They are going to be printed with a matt varnish to make them really look like a blackboard."

Def P & Beatbusters

Eric Van Den Boom of Boom Artwork has created the artwork and logo design for the new album by Dutch musicians Def P & Beatbusters.

Eric’s aim was to reflect the double meaning of the title, so he cleverly illustrated it as an ambigram, he says it’s a "typographical design which reads exactly the same when viewed upside down, while the decoration in the background shows a positive or negative image at the top depending on orientation. The colour scheme – black outside, gold inside – and two inlay illustrations continue the theme."

Baetulona Exhibition

Eric Van Den Boom  is currently participating in the Baetulona Exhibition and travelled over to Barcalona/Badalona to be at the opening. The project depicts the 100 most important moments in the history of the Spanish city of Badalona with images from 100 designers/studios from all over the world who have each produced a 1m x 1.5m image. The result is a stunning 100-metre-long timeline on canvas. Eric's piece is about actors Margarita Xirgú and Enric Borrás.  More info: www.baetulona.cat or blog.baetulona.cat
