Helen Lang works with San Francisco based Modern Twist to create designs for their baby and kids range.
Commissioned to supply four animal designs to be used on children's table mats and bibs, and a sea pattern for another range, Helen used her signature lines to produce these fun and friendly products. She says "This company has been great to work with. The products are great to touch and use."

Arturo Ui

Steinar Lund works with Feast Creative to produce this illustration for the play The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui showing in London now.
After a receiving a photo of the actor Henry Goodman, Steinar set to work creating the body and cat. He says "The actual costume was sent down from Angels The Costumiers which I then modelled myself and photographer Robert Dixon took the reference shots. Robert has a nice big cat that fitted the brief, but alas he was not happy with me holding him.......in the end I used many different references to create the final 'digital' cat".

Wonderhill Market

This flyer design for Wonderhill Market's September events has been created by the brilliant Vicky Scott. Held in Tooting, the market embraces a hand made and vintage theme, echoed in her illustration.
And if you wanted to see more of Vicky's art as well as this piece, pop along to Royal Teas in Greenwich where she is exhibiting until the beginning of October. She says "I'll be showing lots of Autumnal feeling pictures and the cafe does fantastic cakes!".

Sweet Juice

Publicis Dublin have commissioned character designers Juice to work on a campaign for The Natural Confectionary Company.
Working to a relatively simple concept, Art Director Austin Richards asked Juice to design animal characters showing how you can mix and match the jellies. Each jelly is a different animal, and by mixing them you are treated to varied combinations - both in the look of the animal and the taste. "With a little imagination, children can create all sorts of different animals, each one as fun as the last".

Ele Goes on Parade

 

Due to go on parade next week, Vicky Scott's design for the Elephant Parade is now complete. Vicky has been working on the 3D baby elephant mural for the last month, and is relishing the moment it joins the rest of the herd as part of a year long tour across the UK. The Elephant Parade is "the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to attract public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation". The finished pieces are exhibited in well-known cities and auctioned off at prestigious gala events. To track down the herd go here for more information.

Trunki's Paddlepaks

With Duncan Beedie's fine character animation talents, Trunki's ad for the new range of summer swimming/beach bags is now aired. Duncan was brought to the project as a house client for Aardman Animations and used Adobe Flash to create the character animation for the lobster, jellyfish, octopi and clown fish. The new 'Paddlepaks', shaped like underwater creatures are a fun new range from the popular brand Trunki, the ad can be seen here.

Fantastical Birds

These two beauties are part of Vic Lee's  'Fantastical Birds' series.  They are limited edition screen prints  hand finished in Indian inks. See more of his work here.

Rotary Corr Animation

Chris Corr has just completed a worthy animation project for Rotary, the US charity foundation whose focus is bringing clean water to the Third world.

Chris worked closely with animation studio Sherbet on the

project: "I did lots of still pictures and Sherbet had a team of very clever people who animated them. It's great to see your pictures move".

Up Close With Andy

Next month brings the chance to view some of Andy Hammond's inimitable work in delightful close-up. Entitled "The Second Mouse Gets The Cheese", the exhibition concentrates on Andy's many personal drawings.

The preview is on 16th February from 6 till 9pm, then from 19th February to 1st March at the One Church Street Gallery, 1 Church Street, Great Missenden, Bucks, HP16 0AX.

Black Holes In Full Colour

Vincent Vigla's wonderful work shines through in this brand new children's book by Penny Little.

Leilani Sparrow at Hodder Children's books commissioned Vincent to illustrate 'The Blackest Hole' – the story of Charlie and Doggo's journey through a black hole in their home-made rocket. Vincent says: "It was a very nice job to do as the Penny Little work is really such fun to work on."

Merry Christmas One and All

Santa and his Cows

Reminiscent of childhood Christmases past is this lovely felt piece from Gail Armstrong for Anchor Butter.

A departure from her usual paper-cutting skills, this illustration is featuring in Anchor's seasonal press advertising, and was commissioned by Kathy Howes at CHI and Partners.

One Good Deed

Bringing moral inspiration to youngsters everywhere is "Good Deeds All Round" a new book illustrated by Laurence Cleyet-Merle.

Blue Elephant Books in Los Angeles commissioned Laurence for the book which concerns a group of animal friends who all help each other in different situations. The book is being presented at the Frankfurt book fair in October.

Another Monkey For Your Back

Bringing the ancient art of whisky-drinking into the modern era is Jonathan Allardyce and these character illustrations for Monkey Shoulder, a triple malt Scotch whisky aimed at a new generation of drinkers.

Commissioned by William Grant & Sons, Jonathan's brief was to help build a new identity for Monkey Shoulder and challenge more traditional perceptions of the whisky drinker. The artworks appear on point-of sale display items and an information folder for bartenders.

Classic Rhymes Reworked

Bringing new zing to classic children's rhymes and tales is Bill Greenhead and these comical illustrations for US publishers, Benchmark Education.

Working in a loose brush style in Photoshop, Bill created twelve illustrations for each of these four books aimed at very young readers.

Away with the Fairies

Definitely sprinkled with fairy dust is Emma Rios and her recent fairy-related work for Harpers Bazaar, illustrating six pages, each image depicting a different fairy tale.

The fairy theme continues next month with Emma’s collaboration with The House of Fairy Tales working on a 4-day event at the Tate Modern turning the space outside the building into a fairy tale adventure. Ideas are still in the making but should be similar to the paper cutout set design recently on view at the 02.

The Woman of the House

Matthew Hollings is the creator of this masterly illustration for the Sunday Times Magazine.

One of two images, the brief was to create illustrations for a short story ‘The Woman of the House'. Explains Matthew: “The story itself was quite sinister but I was asked to keep the illustrations colourful. The main image aims to encapsulate the story as a whole”.

Ron Borresen

New to the agency this month is digital artist Ron Borresen who is a welcome addition with his warm and witty style.
He joins us with an impressive portfolio that already includes clients such as New York Times Media and Harcourt Brace Publishing. His humourous illustrations have featured on the covers of numerous magazines and newspapers, including this recent image which he greatly enjoyed, for AJS monthly.
