Foire De Lyon

Danny Allison is commissioned by Publicis Lyon to create an image for 'Foire de Lyon'.
The event in March, which will be celebrating sixty years of Rock takes place annually in Lyon, France. Danny's cool lion illustration was born from this link to the host city.

Once Upon A Time

Bee Willey will be taking part in 'Once Upon A Time'; an exhibition celebrating Children's Book Illustrators of East Anglia.
Opening on 25th January, the show takes place at Ipswich Art School and includes original artwork from artists such as Edward Ardizzone, Michael Foreman,  Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone and Helen Oxenbury. Bee says "I am very happy to be showing five images here as part of a large show at the Ipswich Art School Building. This is one of the artworks included as well as older pre-digital pieces . It is great to be there amongst great illustrators!". Running until the beginning of May, admission to the exhibition is free.

Bacon on the Shanghai Metro

Derek Bacon has two works displayed on the Shanghai Metro.
Now showing in 3m wide lightboxes, the images; eye-catching to all commuters are part of the 'Shanghai JCDecaux Cup Public Welfare Ads Design Competition 2013.' Derek's art was chosen for this 'well renowned public event in Shanghai' which had 4000 entries in 2012. Besides the prize money, the winning artworks of the competition are displayed on 'metro media' with JCDecaux providing over 200 lightboxes and digital panels.

Back In Town

New artist with us Dr Ponce will be holding a one man exhibition of his work entitled "Back in town". Taking place at Galerie Mlle, in Montpellier, France, you can get your dose of shapes, colours and composition from 15th November.

Watch Out for the Cat’s Eyes

Tiger and Snow Leopard are just two of the mesmerising paintings on show at Andrew Hutchinson's one-man annual exhibition next month. North Yorkshire artist Andrew will be exhibiting in his home town with over 30 original paintings and a wide range of limited edition prints. He says of the show “I wanted to explore the beauty and depth of the eyes of animals. Get the eyes right and the animal comes alive.”

Principally known for his paintings of British wildlife and farming subjects, you can see more of Andrew’s work for one day only at Sunnyfield House, Guisborough, North Yorkshire TS14 6BA on Saturday 9th November 2013.

Liam O'Farrell at the Affordable Art Fair

From tomorrow, watercolour artist Liam O'Farrell will be exhibiting at The Affordable Art Fair in Battersea.
Obsessed with 'day to day' stuff and the architecture surrounding us, Liam's paintings effervesce with recognisable characters, places and buildings. The exhibition continues until 27th October.  More information here.

Christopher Corr exhibits his latest 'fish themed' paintings at Kensington Place.
This show at the Notting Hill restaurant 'features fish from the seven seas', referencing his time spent in Marseille and other world travels. The joyful nature of his work in this setting will be a feast for the eyes and the belly!
The artworks are hanging from today until January 2014.

Patterson at The Affordable Art Fair

Breaking into the 'fine art scene' and following his success at the Decorative Art Fair recently, Barry Patterson will now be exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea this month. Running from 24th - 27th October these stunning still life paintings are two of the four up for sale.

Portfolio Wales

Welsh artist Hannah Davies will be exhibiting her work in Swansea this week.
Portfolio is an online gallery, promoting and selling contemporary paintings, drawings & prints by artists living and working in Wales. This exhibition which includes other talent such as John Abell and Penny Hallas opens this Saturday 12th October with a preview on Friday 11th between 7 and 9:30pm. An excited Hannah says "(It's) one of the first events I've ever done in my home town in South Wales!"

Type Tasting

Ruth Rowland will be taking part in the Type Tasting Exhibition, run as part of the London Design Festival at the Victoria & Albert Museum. The exhibition and drop in workshops are ‘open to everyone with a love of letterforms’.

Ruth says “I submitted a piece of work for the exhibition, we had to choose a word that described London. I was drawn to the word 'expressive' as it reflects what I love most about London - its dynamic, ever-changing cultural scene. In addition, it's a term often used to describe the loose, gestural nature of much of my work. I like to experiment with mark making, tools can vary from the beautifully hand crafted ruling pen used here, to a piece of old stick from my mother's garden. Pens and brushes are the tools of my trade, I've been collecting them for years, I like the fact that each one has its own distinctive characteristics.”

Miss Led is delighted to be taking part in 'Drawn' at the Printspace Gallery in August. In good company with talents such as Alan Coulson, Claire Scully and Holly Sharpe, Miss Led will also be performing live art on the opening night this Thursday. Here we see a piece she is currently preparing for the event aswell as the invite for the exhibition. The show continues until August 23rd at The Printspace Gallery, 74 Kingsland Road, London E2.

Mail Me Art

Vicky Scott's nature inspired female has been included in the Mail Me Art book and exhibition. Artists were invited to create a design on an envelope and to pop it in the post. Vicky says " All those that arrived safely have been included in the exhibition and the original envelope artworks will be on sale to the public with all proceeds going to charity." A great idea!

Ilfra-Expo

Hannah Davies completes a beautiful artwork for Ilfra-Expo.

Asked to create a large scale mural to be displayed in a temporary location across Ilfracombe, Hannah was thrilled to hear of the opportunity.
Talking of the commission which was in collaboration with fellow artist Lianne Harrison, she says "We were in awe of the Georgian and Victorian houses that line the harbour and are so prominent in this town. We were captured by the fishing boats and the history of the industry . Our aim is to bring this history to life using vibrant colours, shapes and textures to create a wonderful, inspiring collaboration to sit outside the local museum.’
Showing until August 4th, the artwork can now be seen on the outside wall of Ilfracombe Museum in North Devon alongside Lianne's piece.

"From July 14th to August 4th 2013 the seaside town of Ilfracombe will be hosting a range of contemporary artworks, projects and events. Ilfra-Expo will unfold through a series of guided tours and artist talks that will accompany an exhibition of artworks creating a trail of discovery around the historically rich town.

Ilfra-Expo will be presenting artworks in diverse locations, including unused shops and public spaces, as well as the town’s museums, heritage sites and other places important to the local community.
 
The selected artist’s for Ilfra-Expo 2013 are exhibiting existing artworks as well as developing new artworks inspired by the town. Project Manager Erin Rickard has been working closely with the artists, volunteers and community to develop an intimate artistically led experience for visitors to Ilfracombe and Ilfra-Expo. This promises to be an imaginative exhibition that will inspire public interest in both the town’s heritage and in young British artists."

Ten of our illustrators were asked by Saatchi and Saatchi to take part in a fantastic subway exhibition in China. Called "Fresh Beginning for Love" the artworks, used large scale are on tour in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou right now with the aim of 'turning common subway stations into colourful art galleries.'

Nippon Paint invited a total of 32 artists and illustrators from around the world to use their environmentally friendly paints to create the 'love' images. Now, the stations are inspiring 'visual feasts' for commuters.

The Global Times says of the event "After touring the three cities, the 32 artworks will be sold at a charity bazaar at the end of this year. All the funds will be used for "Color, Way of Love," the charity platform of Nippon Paint China for Hope Project Schools, and to improve the teaching environment as well as art education.
Nippon Paint hopes that this philanthropic subway exhibition will inspire people who love beauty to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes and to fill their lives with color."

Pintar Rapido London

John Walsom braved the heat on what was the hottest day of the year so far in London to take part in Pintar Rapido. Meaning 'to paint quickly' the event originating in Spain is an art show that celebrates 'the urban spaces we live and work in'. Alongside hundreds of other artists, John completed two paintings, one of which was exhibited the following day at Chelsea Old Town Hall on the King’s Road where the paintings could be purchased by the public. Roger Beckett founder of Pintar Rapido London says of the event;

"Pintar Rapido is going to be a celebration of art and the city backdrop that inspires artists of all styles to create a painting in a day. I want them to capture the spirit of city – from its parks to its architecture, industrial locations to a river scene. The chaos and the calm and the people who breathe life into it. But most of all I want it to be a fun and exciting event for all those who take part."

Ele Goes on Parade

 

Due to go on parade next week, Vicky Scott's design for the Elephant Parade is now complete. Vicky has been working on the 3D baby elephant mural for the last month, and is relishing the moment it joins the rest of the herd as part of a year long tour across the UK. The Elephant Parade is "the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to attract public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation". The finished pieces are exhibited in well-known cities and auctioned off at prestigious gala events. To track down the herd go here for more information.
