Deer Little Forest
We are delighted with Jo Rose's nomination for The Henries 2013!
Jo's card range 'Deer Little Forest' was up for the award of 'Most Promising Artist/Designer 2013', a category with some 14,000 entries. This range which is one of Jo's latest creations about a 'cast of colourful creatures who form a magical and musical travelling parade', made it to the final five. She says "The awards evening (was back in October), I didn't win but am still totally chuffed to have been nominated".
We are sure her hand crafted work, full of character and theatre will be up for more awards in the future.

Dover Street Market Installation

Rohan Eason is the man behind this installation at Dover Street Market, for Comme Des Garcon; the second launch of the book 'Anna and the Juniper Dog'.  Four of Rohan's originals from the book hang against the space which is covered in drawn threads and needles. Rohan says "(It's) quite a good coo for the book, and the installation should be making its way to the new Japanese store this year." Running til 16th March, there's still time to see it if you're local; Dover Street market 17-18 Dover Street, London W1S 4LT.

Frankenstein

Here is T. S. Spookytooth's latest commission, one from Steve Kirk at Computer Active.  The enigmatic illustrator says: "The brief was simply to illustrate an article about creating your own 3D pictures, Steve wanted an illustration of Frankenstein's Monster wearing old style 3D glasses. I happily obliged, there was a Spooky element to it after all, so how could I resist!"

Vincent Is Cool

Not sweating one bit is Vincent Vigla with his busy work for Ludovic Barra at Café.com on Facebook’s immensely popular “Is Cool” iconography.
The design centres around three levels defining the type of user you are: “cool”, “very cool”, or “the coolest”. In this world of cool the Kiwi is the symbol of “Is Cool” and so far 51 Kiwi characters have been designed. Says Vincent: “The redesign of “Is Cool” is still going ahead with many upcoming funny things.”

Away with the Fairies

Definitely sprinkled with fairy dust is Emma Rios and her recent fairy-related work for Harpers Bazaar, illustrating six pages, each image depicting a different fairy tale.
The fairy theme continues next month with Emma’s collaboration with The House of Fairy Tales working on a 4-day event at the Tate Modern turning the space outside the building into a fairy tale adventure. Ideas are still in the making but should be similar to the paper cutout set design recently on view at the 02.

michaelmaxxis.com

This terrific web page illustration is by Grahame Baker Smith who was approached by Canadian music video maker Michael Maxxis for this dark and delightful design.
As fate would have it, the two already had a strong connection. Explains Grahame: “I asked what band he was working with and he said a UK band that I probably won't have heard of called The Heavy. I nearly fell off my chair—the lead singer used to live next door to me! It was incredible to me to talk to Michael, thousands of miles away, and find this common and quite strange link between us.”

Flying High

More brilliant paper skills this month with Gail Armstrong’s piece for in-flight magazine AA Traveller.
The brief was to illustrate holiday destinations where the dollar was still strong. With some Photoshop work to manipulate patterns and markings relating to dollars, Gail created papers from which to make the sculpture. It was then photographed by Jonny Thompson.

The Nuno

This intriguingly stylish design by Nuno DaCosta was created for top London salon Hari's Salon.
Based on his Caran D' Ache colouring pencil box set with a different colour on each nail, the ‘Nuno’ (as it’s come to be known) has been getting a lot of press and meanwhile Mr DaCosta himself promises more to come.

Henry VIII Stamp Set

Gail Armstrong has created an incredible set of stamps on Henry VIII for Guernsey Post to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the coronation of the legendary king.
Gail has used a colour palette that is heavily influenced by the paintings and textiles of the era. "All of the patterned and textured papers I used for these pieces, I created digitally" explained Gail "rather than being compromised by what was available."

Autosur to the Rescue

Make way for Peter Thom’s super-hero bear, filled with attitude and chutzpah, Pete has recently revamped the mascot for French auto care company Autosur.
Appearing in adverts througout the French press, Pete worked closely with Creative Director Jean Letellier of Ailleurs Exactement Paris to develop this auto hero, at the same time adhering as much as possible to the original specifications of the previous bear.
