Reptile Brain Music

 

BoomArtwork produces an album cover for Swedish rock band Imperial State Electric.
Nicke Andersson; former front man of The Hellacopters approached BoomArtwork to create the art for the vinyl album of his new band. He asked for something bold and vintage to illustrate the record title 'Reptile Brain Music', so BoomArtwork set to work using his fabulous design and illustrative skills and made this punchy retro visual, he says "... First I drew the hand of Zeus with my brush and ink, and then the crocodiles eating each other's tail. In Photoshop I placed everything together and then started with the typography. Instead of using an existing typeface I thought it would make the album more special to create custom lettering. After finishing I added some filters to make it look like it was released in the 70's. It was so much fun to illustrate an LP album cover, as it is such a cool, tactile canvas to work on."

Kickback Man

Joe McDermott's card for Papyrus is now on the shelves. The artwork targeted for the birthday of 'the man in your life' was to feature a slightly past-his-prime 'superhero'. Joe says "They wanted the hero to be relaxing on his couch, watching TV, and be surrounded by junk food. He's a couch potato who isn't so concerned about fighting crime anymore."

STOP PRESS: Vince Ray creates Hot Fender Design

Legendary Guitar Brand Fender commission 'underground' artist Vince Ray to design another limited edition acoustic.

'Non Stop Rock 'n' Roll Voodoo Action!'; a statement on the back of this Vince Ray Voodoo Bucket 300CE, and one that sums up Vince Ray in life and art. Not the first time Vince has worked with this world leading guitar manufacturer, providing designs for T-Shirts and merchandise in the past, but this offer of putting his artwork on a guitar was 'a dream come true'. Vince says "...They were very open minded about the subject matter and gave me a free hand in choosing the theme for the latest model. I've always been a fan of the old delta blues style and wanted to create a design that had that 'wrong side of the tracks' vibe. Inspiration came from all those old blues songs about selling your soul to the devil and dancing the hoochie coo in juke joints, all the good ol' stuff! I've often used the expression 'Rock & Roll Voodoo' as a descriptive subtitle and it seemed very appropriate in this instance". Vince has also put together a fun video with a Fender dreadnought using inspiration from 50's horror B movies.

Be Magazine

Joe McDermott creates this spread for Be Magazine in France, one year after her 'new breasts', it's as if they have always been there!

Perrier on the Metro

Joseph McDermott's work for Perrier with Ogilvy Paris appears large on the Paris Metro. Stunning!

ESPN Paper doll

This paper doll with choice of outfits was created by Heather Landis for ESPN. She says " They needed a paper doll with a variety of dresses including a sports outfit - a 'casual' cubs uniform. They used it as an animation in their documentary about team spirit." See the documentary here. (5 mins 30 secs in.)

Dieline Awards 2012

BoomArtwork is thrilled to have won 3rd Place in this year's Dieline Awards with his DrNo Packaging designs. This award is the result of a worldwide competition devoted exclusively to the art of brand packaging.
Featuring in the Electronics, Technology, Movies and CDs category, BoomArtwork was just beaten by the album artwork for Lou Reed and Metallica in 2nd place and album artwork for Jay Z / Kanye West in top position. He says "Recently I created packaging design and artwork for DrNo Effects, a range of vintage guitar effect pedals...........Unfortunately I wasn’t able to come over to Boston and except the award in person; therefore DrNo and I created with the help of my friends at Konacoast a short ‘award acceptance speech’ video that was shown during the awards in Boston." See the video.  Huge congratulations for this very deserved award.

Perrier

Joseph McDermott has been working with Ogilvy Paris on some ads for Perrier and commissioned to complete 3 images in his 1960's pop art style. Joe says "For the overall look, they wanted it to have the appearance of an image on paper that had been greatly enlarged/zoomed in, so the line work had to be a bit fuzzy. For color, they wanted solid colors with a paper texture." With the speech bubble translating to "Oh A Perrier with thin bubbles !", Joe's style gives the posters a fresh, clean impact, very suited to the brand.

Sam's Words

These two pieces are from Sam Bevington's ongoing personal project experimenting with hand drawn type.The text is cleverly designed by Sam, with no fonts involved. Sam says "The words themselves are from a couple of northern soul classics: 'Come on Train' by Don Thomas and 'Messin with the Kid' by Junior Wells.
