Breathing Easy

Chrissy Lau was recently commissioned by Men's Health Magazine Australia to create a 'very elaborate and beautiful' typographic illustration for a feature on breathing better. Asked to create typography that was not only stylish, current and visually striking, the lettering also needed to link seamlessly with the delicate bronchi of the lungs. She has done a super job here.

A treat of a job came to the desk of Lauren Mortimer, who was asked by Angelina Tearoom Paris to create three illustrations for their novelty tins. Lauren, using her quaint drawing skills has completed biscuit, chocolate and lollipop tin illustrations, she says "Angelina is a historical tea room in Paris, created in 1903 during the Belle Époque, so they wanted to illustrations that would portray this era and style." The tins are now looking great on their website and in the tearoom filled with the sweet things Angelina is so famous for.

Ian Naylor completes a wallet cover illustration for Prog Rock Magazine.
Commissioned by Art Editor Russell Fairbrother, the illustration was for a feature on the meeting of Mike Oldfield and Richard Branson and the subsequent success of the 'Tubular Bells' LP back in the 70's. With the album cover being so iconic, the brief was to produce a slightly modern take on the original whilst retaining it's look. Ian says "The magazine has really good production values, lovely print and very well put together with a card wallet enclosing the magazine......this is my fourth wallet cover for them and they are good fun to work for. The Tubular Bells cover was fun to do but I nearly drowned at Morecambe taking photos of the sea!"

60 Years of The Queen

Gail Armstrong produces a glorious cover illustration for the July issue of "Where? London" magazine. The issue celebrates 60 years since The Queen's Coronation and features related events and places of interest to visit around London. Gail's paper sculpture image is inspired by the crown jewels with the crenellations creating a skyline of some of London's notable landmarks. Art Director Tim Benton said of the piece "We were so impressed with Gail's unique craft. She has created a fantastic eye catching illustration for our 'Where?' cover to our exact specifications, whilst still putting a great deal of her own input into the work. She is a true artist...." The "note From the Editor" feature in the magazine also has a short piece with some photos about the making of the image; an added insight into Gail's creations. Ele Goes on Parade

 

Due to go on parade next week, Vicky Scott's design for the Elephant Parade is now complete. Vicky has been working on the 3D baby elephant mural for the last month, and is relishing the moment it joins the rest of the herd as part of a year long tour across the UK. The Elephant Parade is "the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to attract public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation". The finished pieces are exhibited in well-known cities and auctioned off at prestigious gala events. To track down the herd go here for more information.

Journey by Starlight

Britt Spencer teams up with Ian Flitcroft to bring us 'Journey By Starlight', 'a time traveller's guide to life, the universe and everything'. The book sets out to explain many things, (in an understandable way) from why the sky is blue to Quantum Mechanics, illustrated in Britt's naturally humourous comic style. Britt says "...it's been doing great critically and was even highlighted on NPR's "On Point" program as a "great summer read." Go get yourself a copy.

Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn works on AIGA Orlando's Facebook cover piece. 'Hello Summer', combining, sea, sand and oranges, beautifully drawn and including Shauna's fabulous hand lettering is in use right now on the educational organisation’s page.

Greenhead's E Stings

Bill Greenhead enters the 2013 E Stings with Flamin' Nora.
Bill had immense fun with this animation, created for the popular competition run by E4. Apart from a few rules including no violence, the piece being exactly 10 seconds long and to incorporate the E4 logo, the competition is open to all those who love to see their work on the TV. The chosen favourites will be aired on E4 with the winner receiving a nice £5000. Good luck Bill! Watch Bill's entry.

Cricket and a Cuppa

Andrew Hutchinson completes another dream job for Yorkshire Tea.
As official sponsors of the tea break at the forthcoming Ashes test matches, Yorkshire Tea decided they should produce a special edition box featuring a typical cricket ground scene.  Having worked previously on the re-launch of the iconic Yorkshire Tea packaging and being a keen cricket fan, Andrew was delighted to be asked to undertake work on this commemorative box.
