Gail Armstrong creates two book cover illustrations for Llewellyn Worldwide.

'Mama Gets Trashed' and 'Mama Does Time' by Deborah Sharp are part of the Mace Bauer Mystery series; stories based in Florida involving biologist Mace and his mother who stumble upon murder victims and then feel compelled to investigate. The brief was to make artwork that reflected the humour in the books whilst feeling 'light, fun and colourful' to evoke the Florida warmth. Gail says "... I worked with a palette that seemed to reflect Florida colours and created the front cover image that illustrates a key event in each of the books. The type and background repeat pattern work to tie the books together visually. There is also a smaller, related image for use on the spine and back of each of the books."

Dress Up with Larkum

Adam Larkum's bicycle illustration has won the contest to 'have your design on a T-Shirt' with Mister Dress Up. For one week only, Adam has licensed his art for use on the garments, and for a price of $20 you can have your own! Have a look here.

Pentonville Road

John Walsom is happy to have this gorgeously moody watercolour accepted for the Sunday Times watercolour competition. "Pentonville Road" will go on exhibition at the Mall Galleries in September.

Dubai on a Deadline

Liam O'Farrell triumphs with this illustration for the Celebration of Dubai Airports 2013. Using watercolours with his fluid and confident style, Liam was required to supply the painting on an extremely tight deadline. He says "All seemed to work out well despite being a next day delivery."

Demining

Icon illustrator Willie Ryan creates 15 illustrations for the Geneva International Centre. Commissioned by Mark Evans at ACW, here we see four of the artworks which have been used on a poster for International Demining.

Face In The Crowd

 

Anne Wilson’s entry for this year’s Serco Prize is an eye catching illustration. Face in The Crowd is a stunning piece of poster art on the theme 'Secret London'.

Anne, who won the award last year, saw her piece used as a poster on the Transport for London services aswell as receiving a cash sum.

The Serco Prize for Illustration is a competition organised by London Transport Museum, in partnership with the Association of Illustrators, the top 50 entries have been selected for this year’s exhibition, which will take place at the London Transport Museum opening on Tuesday 13th November and run until Monday 10th December 2012. The 3 winners will also be announced later in the year.

Sea of Jelly

Bompas and Parr have achieved something truly remarkable, last week saw the food architects 'floating' Brunel's ss Great Britain on a sea of jelly! As part of a cultural festival the ship which is moored in Bristol is one of ten sites being 'matched' with contemporary artists for the 'Museums at Night' season. Bompas and Parr's 'sea' creation involved making and 'pushing' 55,000 litres of neon green jelly around the ship, which is lit from below once the sun has gone down. Read more here.

The Steam Age

This cool image is the work of Hannah Davies for the cover of Amazing and Extraordinary Facts; The Steam Age published by David and Charles. Written by Julian Holland the illustration took Hannah along a slightly different path with her work, she says "This was a fantastic project, very unusual and fun. A chance to delve into something completely different!" The book is out now.

Renault Olympics Poster

This piece of imagery by super talent Danny Allison has been created for Publicis Ireland for client Renault. Danny had one day to complete the poster, an extremely tight deadline which involved a working night, but with a successful result. Danny says "(The artwork was) all hand done, screen printed, painted. The man who is on the poster got in touch to say he loved it (Mark Rohan who is (the) Irish Paralympic handcycling champion)". Renault are so pleased they are also having a print to hang in their headquarters.

Working with Wunderman in Germany for Lufthansa, several of our artists have contributed to an amazing mural exhibited in Berlin. Chris Ede, Ben Tallon and Miss Led along with others illustrated the "Zukunft-Berlin-campaign", "Sieh doch, was Du willst". Each piece from the individual artist has been combined to create a massive mural in a giant public space in Berlin.

Cliff Mills

Specialising in travel and editorial illustrations, as well as poster and t-shirt designs, we are rather happy to have Cliff Mills with us. Residing in the US, his work is heavily influenced by Arizona; the state he was born and raised. Cliff's work can be highly detailed and conceptual, loose and reportage. Combining textures and line, always with drawing at the heart.

Christopher Corr's book covers for Lonely Planet, just published, are a treat for any adventurous kid. Covering London, New York, Paris and Rome, and strictly not for parents, Christopher's enthralling illustrations are a successful book opener. In shops now.

Do You Have Soul Now?

John Walsom's city painting was recently accepted for exhibition at Bankside Gallery, home of the Royal Watercolour Society, as part of the "London Lives" exhibition which ran earlier this month.  John says, " It's called "Do You Have Soul Now?" which isn't as esoteric as it sounds - it's the piece of music I was listening to when I painted it".

Re Creation

Hannah Davies's beautiful artworks will be taking part in an exhibition this month. Re Creation, an Art in Mind exhibition is showing at The Brick Lane Gallery from 15th - 26th September.  These are some of the treats on sale.

We give a huge round of applause to Anne Wilson, winner of the Serco Prize for Illustration.

Anne’s ‘Winding Through The City’ beat 400 entries for the competition, 50 of which are on show at the London Transport Museum until June 3rd. The brief was to show the Thames as a diverse and exciting place for Londoners and visitors.
