Naylor gets Technical



A recently completed illustration by Ian Naylor is to be used on a huge panel in the museum at Bristol Dock. It's a technical and dynamic image of SS Great Britain at her peak as a migrant ship in 1857. Greatly fulfilling its potential as a learning resource, the piece was commissioned by Shane Casey and Harriet Jefferies.

John Paul gets Messy!



Commissioned by Clare Devonport at Reach Design, John Paul Early has created some fun packaging for Askeys. Real photos of cornets were added to John Paul’s amusing kid characters to show what messy fun can be had when eating ice cream. His bold line conveys the jovial nature of the brief.

Bannister at Goodwood



The Goodwood Revival Meeting is a yearly event for vintage racing cars....and old racing drivers. Philip Bannister has been commissioned by Sam Walker at North Star Publishing to produce illustrations for the programme of events book; portraits of old racing drivers including Sterling Moss and ‘cigarette card’ style drawings of World War aircraft. This was a particularly enjoyable job for Philip which will produce a very nice book indeed.

Lucky to have Wai!



‘Lucky’ magazine has come back for a second time to commission Wai for an advertorial. This year they have asked her to illustrate on a similar theme for Freixenet, two girls enjoying champagne in Manhattan. Wai’s illustration is so glamorous; beauty and elegance are always at the fore.

Beetson in Miami!



Sarah Beetson covers the Miami Herald with her usual colourful, bubblegum style. The article was about a ski club in Miami more renowned for its Martini’s than the skiing trips. She’s an expert at incorporating delicate drawing skills with funky confident colour and text. The client; Philip Brooker says of Sarah: ‘Sarah’s illustration was fantastic, her work seems to fit into the colorful Miami lifestyle’

Is There Anybody Out There?



Steinar Lund has illustrated in the new book by psychic medium Craig Hamilton-Parker. The forthcoming "Opening to the Other Side', is a guide to developing psychic and mediumistic skills. Craig was particularly pleased with the illustration as it encapsulates his experience of communication with the world of spirit. The image is used with permission of Sterling Publishing Co., Inc.

Prolific Jamel



Award winning artist Jamel Akib is busy as ever. With over 10 children’s books on the go for US publishers he continues to be one of the most gifted and organic illustrators of our time. Jamel produces striking illustrations in chalk pastel as well as digitally, which cleverly fuse concept and atmosphere. Jamel loves what he does…………..and he’s a nice bloke!

Paul Daviz Animatics



Starting with an Amiga 500 15 years ago, Paul Daviz has come far with his animations. Describing his style as economical, clients include BT, Paramount and Honda. He’s working on a personal project at present which we hope will incorporate his typically northern humour found in the animation opposite!

Steven Pattison makes us Scream with joy!



The fantastic Steven has just created some amazing images for a Doctors Column in Medical Magazine………Commissioned by Johnathan Anstee Steven used his unique method of montage centred around an aggressive use of line and colour, mixed with strong graphic overtones and unusual use of composition I think you'll agree that they certainly make you stand up and pay attention.

Cube Sparkle with Canada Dry



Cube were commissioned by Heather Miehen at Toronto based design group Anthem Design recently to create the illustrations for one our favourite mixers. The team illustrated the new fruity versions of the drink with their usual style and panache! Coming up with some images that are gorgeous enough to make our mouths water in this searing heat!

Montana makes her mark in Hamburg



Montana Forbes has just recently finished a poster for the Hamburg Music Festival. The illustration featured the Comedian Harmonists, a 6 man act in Pre-War Germany making pop songs whilst imitating musical instruments. Using a Grand Piano as the background Montana illustrated the ensemble in their dapper tuxedos/bow ties reflected in the piano. A wonderful piece of cinematic glam!

Fashion Diva Sarah Beetson Takes Us Through The Weekend!



These gorgeous eye catching pieces were commissioned by David Woodside @ the Globe and Mail newspaper in Toronto, Canada. It was 5 fashion illustrations for the style section of the weekend papers, showing how a small selection of clothing can be styled into different looks for different weekend occasions. Good advice for all us party girls!

Andrew's Award



'The most outstanding work on an avian theme' describes Andrew Beckett’s illustration which won an award at NEWA (National Exhibition of Wildlife Art). It is the biggest open exhibition of wildlife art in the country. "Birds Illustrated" magazine were sponsoring an award this year, they are now to do a feature on him for the next edition

Montana's got Body and Soul!



The Saturday Times has a new resident by the name of Montana Forbes for their Body and Soul section. Her evocative illustrations suitably tackle the somewhat challenging ‘adult’ question every week! Commissioned by Anderida Hatch.

Corr on Sak's 5th Avenue



The windows of Sak's 5th Avenue, New York are filled with wonderful art. ‘Cashmere If You Can’; a book illustrated by Christopher Corr and commissioned by Terron Schaefer, the Vice President at Sak's, brings the passer by to a halt with a gallery of illustration. Cashmere goat cut-outs join enormous images from the book, what better way to see it!

Robot Dog



Author and Illustrator Mark Oliver has wowed us all with his new children’s book ‘Robot Dog’; out now and published by Little Tiger Press. A touching story following Scrap; a robot dog whose imperfections land him in a junkyard, the book is destined to be a success with young readers. This is one not to miss.

Andrew Hutchinson has a one day exhibition coming up on Saturday 12th November 2005 (10.00a.m.- 4.00p.m.) at Sunnyfield House, Westgate, Guisborough, North Yorkshire. Welcome Chris King



We are proud to announce the arrival of Chris King to our books. Coming from a background in media production, he has now settled very comfortably as an illustrator which is great for us all! His images have a unique look blending the digital with the hand drawn, almost engraved feel. He has been gaining recognition very quickly so take a look.

Something for Charity



Greg Becker has taken part in an online auction of hand painted postcards for the charity CARE. With proceeds mainly for the Asian tsunami victims, Greg was in fine company with artists like Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst. His card; similar to the image opposite sold for a fine price.

Selby gets Japanese Client



Commissioned by Ruan Milborrow at CDP Travis Sully, Andrew Selby has completed an ad for new car technology being developed by Japanese client NEC. Designed to prevent possible collisions by vehicle users and passengers, Andrew used a limited colour palette and simple design motifs to convey the message 'cars can talk to each other'. The job had a fast turnaround time and is another to add to his award winning portfolio

John Holder Does Bluegrass



Not only does he belong to a bluegrass band himself but John Holder has also recently finished a CD cover for another British Bluegrass band; Buffalo Smoke. It’s an amusing illustration, and John’s involvement in the music only helped capture the spirit required for such a project.

Icon King



Willie Ryan’s punchy imagery is persistent in its simplicity and effectiveness. He has become our icon king, regularly commissioned for logos and graphics from designers who feel they can communicate with Willie exceptionally well – because his work is ‘designed’. Willie’s work has a longevity many could only hope for.

Storytime With Anne



'Storytime First Tales for Sharing' is full of beautiful illustrations created by our very own Anne Wilson. She has become the Queen of Children’s Book illustrators and has already been commissioned to do another by the same publisher; Emma Parkin at Barefoot books. It’s a collection of 7 traditional tales such as 'The Gingerbread Man' and designed to be read by very young children

Sholto Walker



Sholto Walker has developed marvellously since starting to illustrate some 15 years ago. Coming from an oil painting background, he tackled more troubled themes. But now, his very refreshing, dynamically drawn pen and digital images have a broader based appeal. Church Completes French Campaign



Caroline Church has finished a wonderful campaign for EDF, sponsors of the French Rugby Team. The campaign is a witty play on words that have a second meaning within a rugby game, for example the stamp (which is a tackle) and the candle or the tie. Her classic style lays well on the old parchment type backgrounds. The illustrations are appearing as magazine ads right now and were commissioned by Nicola Harlamoff at EURO RSCG C&O

Montana's Style



The Sunday Times STYLE Magazine has embraced Montana Forbes! As well as illustrating for ‘What’s The Alternative?’ page she also does a regular for the Contents page. Each week Montana illustrates a silhouette of a woman who appears ageless, beautifully crafted and sometimes with a leotard! The page is commissioned by Linda Burrows.

Tjader illustrates for Scottish Writer



A recent job for Ella Tjader was to create not only an audio book/CD cover but also poster and tickets for a public reading event. A.L. Kennedy is a famous Scottish writer whose event was run by the Glasgow OXFAM book shop in association with RNIB Scotland. The beauty in Ella’s work gives the designs such a feminine feel.

Sixth Time for Selby



The English Fox has been accepted into the Design and New Media category of Images 30, which for Andrew Selby is the sixth time his work has been successful in the annual. The image was originally commissioned by Charles Hively of the New York based agency Hively Design, for a brochure cover, promoting the work of British illustrators working in the United States. Congratulations Andrew!

Church Illustrates Vodka



From the first and only distillery in Iceland comes Reyka Vodka! It has received great praise from the press and also has a wonderfully illustrated cap by Caroline Church. Based on a 1930’s stamp the geysir emulates an explosion of flavour, Caroline produced icons for the website and shipping boxes too. Commissioned by Kevin Shaw at Stranger and Stranger.

Total Chris King



A regular job for Chris King comes in the shape of Total Guitar Magazine. Each month they have a section on How to?, the piece opposite was to portray How to: rehearse. Chris’s style provides a real gritty and realistic portrayal of musicians getting stuck in! The Art Editor is Brad Merrett.

A grand cover for Ian Naylor, enabling him to re-live childhood memories came in the style of Computer Active Magazine. Commissioned by Nick Palmer, the brief was to reproduce the kind of robots that lit up, walked into the skirting boards and scared the dog! Bradford Knows How To Get An ASBO




Tim Bradford's stylized characters were the perfect choice for 'How to get an ASBO', a book cover commissioned by Anna Martin at Virgin Books. The book is a humorous, how-to guide showing readers how to make their neighbours' lives hell and get an Anti-Social Behaviour Order. Tim's 5 characters - each with their own unique 'thug' look - captures their social downfalls in stylishly simple linework

Beetson Covers Popular Workshop

Firmin in Muddy Creek



Hannah Firmin was lucky enough to spend some time last spring in the gardens of Debbie Allen, author of 'Garden Notes from Muddy Creek', a book about the making of a perennial garden in Vermont USA. Hannah's main task was to complete a main image for each month, and another 300 smaller images - mostly technical and decorative images - for the rest of the book. From June it will be on sale, and will be followed soon by a 2007 calendar. Hannah is a print maker with a wealth of experience, and we are sure you'll agree her highly decorative style was ideal for this subject matter

Forbes Brings Summer To Gap



Montana Forbes goes from strength to strength with her coolly understated style of illustration, this time helping Gap promote their Summer 2006 dress range.Gap's Fiona Robson commissioned Montana to create four illustrations for the fashion range, and it's these which you'll see featured across a range of major publications including: The Daily Mail, The Telegraph and The Times Saturday Magazine.

Gail Armstrong The Paper Sculptress



Some artforms always command respect and Gail Armstrong's paper sculpturing does just that. Her sculpture style is very 3 dimensional, often with dramatic perspectives, especially pieces involving architecture. Her sculptures develop from drawings, and she takes inspiration from a number of sources: from the texture of certain paper, to illuminated manuscripts, as well as from the work of Erte, Pugin and Tamara De Lempicka. Gail started illustrating seriously in 1997 after working for a design consultancy, and is currently combining all her strengths on a children's book. Shown here is one of a series made to illustrate ‘the threat of paperwork’ commissioned by Bernard Hodes Advertising.

Bill's Gone Wild



Bill's warm, plasticine and downright loveable style was perfect when Paperhouse's Nik Brittain-Long gave Bill the chance to illustrate and write their 'Wild at Heart' card range. As you can see, Bill hits the spot once more in his own special way.

Williams Revamps Classics



Revamped by Simon Williams, we are about to see a range of classic childrens’ DVDs hit our shops. Tennille Toussaint at Entertainment Rights gave Simon the challenge of providing posters and DVD covers for Trumpton, Chigley Cross and Camberwick Green. The original photos and puppets were just too poor in quality to use, so Simon re-drew the characters and backgrounds to give us all scenes we remember so well.

Pattison Packages Products For Safeway



If illustration work could ever be compared to marathon running, then our Steven Pattison would be a winner by far. His latest commission had him creating a marathon run of over 100 illustrations for the US and Canadian supermarket giant Safeway. The illustrations form part of Safeway's rebranding of yoghurts and ice cream ranges, and are perfect testimony not only to how prolific Steven can be himself, but also how versatile his illustration work is too.

Sainsbury's Commission for Kyprianou



Peter Kyprianou's distinctive work continues to form part of the Sainsbury's brand reworking. Having begun producing the many illustrations last year, his iconic imagery is soon set to bring a very stylish panache to this giant of a client. We can't wait.

Bacon Goes Full Throttle For Honda



It was foot to the floor for Derek Bacon when New Zealand's leading agency Y&R commissioned him for their latest Honda ad.With his distinctive photo-montaging skills on full throttle, Derek kept tightly to the brief (and even tighter to the deadline!), to create a deviously detailed world for the Honda Jazz to drive through. Says Derek: "They wanted a street scene that was populated with lots of people all having a bad day at once...with each problem related to the fact they weren't driving the Honda..." Derek's combination of details and colour, with that added comical twist to reality makes for one stand-out picture.

Tjader in Nylon



Japanese fashion magazine Nylon of Dazed and Confused have used Ella Tjader in a truly dreamy manner. Creating a romantic world for models in a spring denim collection, Tjader has drawn on her elegant lines to produce yet another lulling artwork. Riza Fujimoto was the commissioner.

Can't Get Enough Of Koichi



A lot of artists have style, but Koichi Fujii has it by the truckload. His distinctly graphic work uses colour and shape to create a style that is highly atmospheric, contemporary and well, basically, really cool. Koichi names photographers like Guy Bourdin and Jeanloup Sieff as major influences, and he worked as an Art Director for many years before turning to illustrating some 4 years ago. Clients who have been wowed by his work have included Celebrity magazine, Wellington Handwriting, Scope, Health and Fitness magazine, and Kensington magazine. It is Koichi’s love of the dramatic fashion image that drives much of his work. His dream job is to one day apply his cool stylings to advertising images for a major fashion company.
