Wendy's Hidden Message

Kathryn Rathke enlightens us on the talk recently of a hidden message in the Wendy's logo.
The Huffington Post observed that the word 'Mom' was written in the collar of the girl in the new Wendy's logo, which Kathryn created with the team at Tesser agency. She says "Although it was not indeed intentional, my mother noticed and remarked on it, way back at the unveiling last fall,.....when she pointed it out to me, I did let her think that I did it just for her."

The word 'Mom' can be seen clearer here

Need a Vacation?

Stuart Holmes's recent editorial for O2 magazine highlights the need and ability of small business owners to take vacation time. He says "The illustration depicts a retail high street with various business owners closing up off on their holidays, whilst still maintaining a business presence." Using his graphic style, the illustration cleverly contrasts a vibrant street with the grey of the surroundings.

San Francisco Scarf

thebolditalic.com

Jennifer Maravillas's collaboration with The Bold Italic has resulted in this beautiful silk scarf based on her vibrant map of San Francisco. "Jennifer was inspired by "the many colors to be seen around the city: the cold hues of the Pacific, the shades of succulents, wild and overgrown hidden trails, the elusive sunlight, newly painted boats, rainbow salt ponds, bridges, painted Victorians, patterned tiles of taquerias, produce stacked and waiting, the hippies and the hipsters, people watching people watching people, silver rooftops, the blur of bicycles passing, and of course, the gray fog." (The Bold Italic Shop).  You can buy the scarf here.

Reel Fashion Project

Lucia Emanuela Curzi works with Air Paris and Reel Shanghai to produce several exquisite illustrations for the Reel Fashion Show. Completed towards the end of last year, the advertising campaign is now live in the lavish department store in Shanghai. Lucia says "...a lot of high-luxury fashion brands were involved directly in the creative process featuring fashion illustrations from the Spring Summer 2013 collections; Alexander Mcqueen, Alexander Wang, Gucci, Marni, Moncler, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Emilio Pucci, Sergio Rossi, Bobby Brown, Mac, Lancome, Clinique and Clarins." The work was also included in a fashion illustrated magazine/look book called "The Reel Spring Magazine' which is for clients inside the store and features 35 illustrations. Light boxes inside and outside the mall, life size cut-outs of the models and a maxi poster and invitation card, were also part of this major fashion event.

Wendy's Logo

Kathryn Rathke has been keeping a secret for over 3 years! But now with the unveiling of the new Wendy’s logo, she can finally reveal her part in the project.
Back in 2009 Kathryn was approached by Tesser to aid them in re-designing the Wendy's logo. She worked with them very closely; sketching, getting feedback and revising over a period of months. Tesser were very happy with the animation and expression that Kathryn was able to distil into a few elegant lines, and Kathryn was honoured to be a part of such an iconic job working with such a great design team.
